Suggested Learning Experiences

These suggested activities/tasks are for group work within a classroom and you should select activities/tasks that are most relevant to the needs of your learners and school community. Please use your professional judgement as to how best to deliver these types of activities/tasks with your learners and which other staff may also be able to provide support/differentiation to meet their needs.

  1. What do we know?
    Teacher can facilitate discuss with learners about what they already know about solvents – glues, gases, aerosols.  (whole class or in groups)
    Discuss/explore the different information – general, short/long term effects on the body etc. where has this come from? How do we know it is reliable/true?
    Teacher can facilitate discussion about what learners know about the law and solvents etc. What do they know? How have they found out?
    Groups can design a way to share information about solvents – poster, Kahoot! etc.
  2. What do we need to know?
    Discuss/explore how solvents affects the body/mind, addiction etc.
    Education Scotland resource –
    Discussions re: solvent misuse/behaviour, short & long term effects on the body.
