What do we know?

Ask pupils to discuss what work they have done in primary school relating to careers – what do they want to do? How do they know their options? What skills do they have? You may wish to discuss the Resilience/Growth Mindset topic with learners and think about why this might be important in this context? What challenges might be faced? Learners could log on/register with My World of Work from Skills Development Scotland and work through tasks to remind themselves of their skills/strengths.

What do we need to know?

Learners could work through the career option task on My World of Work which encourages them to explore options about what career could be right for them. They can then reflect on their strengths, interests and skills. You could use this resource from Skills Development Scotland about strengths to generate deeper discussion with learners. What sorts of jobs/careers are suggested and which ones are they most interested in? What else can they find out about aspects of personal interest regarding these topics?

What’s happening here/locally? What could we do next?

What local employment opportunities are there? What might my next steps be? What organisations/support networks can help with career advice/support?
